Director General of DHA inaugurates the fifth edition of the Emergency Medicine Conference
His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) inaugurated the 5th edition of the Emirates Society of the Emergency Medicine Scientific Conference 2018 (ESEM 2018).
ESEM18 is an annual congress organised by Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine with support from leading government and private institutions including Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority, Emirates Medical Association and Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.
The event kicked off on December 12 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Festival City, Dubai and will run till December 15, 2018. His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority said: “During the past two decades the world faced several health issues; including epidemics, an increase in accidents and injuries, and chronic disorders, all of which created challenges for the emergency medicine community. These challenges also established its role in the prevention and treatment, and the importance of upgrading emergency medicine departments with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, to enable the staff to carry out their duties.”
His Excellency further commented in his inauguration speech that: :We, at the DHA, are aware of the status of our city, and its importance as a hub for conventions, conferences and summits, as well as other events, which require being always ready to face any medical emergency. Of course, we depend on emergency departments to face any urgent challenges or issue, and we assert that the DHA spares no efforts to develop emergency medicine departments and elevate their performance, to become a global leader, and a key provider of emergency healthcare. Dr. Saleh Fares, President, Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM) and Chair of Conference said: “ESEM has helped reshape the UAE’s perspective of Emergency medicine as a whole. We as a society have worked closely to enhance training and clinical practice protocols and have successfully advocated broader recognition and support for emergency medicine from both the people and the government of United Arab Emirates. Scientific activities like ESEM conference and others have helped in improved clinical outcomes and our collaborative efforts are seen in terms of decreased mortality and morbidity in many emergency diseases, such as trauma, acute coronary syndrome and others.”
Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, Chair of the Scientific Committee of ESEM Conference also commented on this occasion: “This conference has been carefully designed to provide an innovative and comprehensive overview of the latest developments in Emergency Medicine, primarily in the areas of pre – hospital care, Trauma, Toxicology, Disaster Medicine, Pediatric EM, Emergency Nursing, Research updates and many more.
